Press Release

Date: Sept. 22, 2016
Location: Paramus, NJ
Issues: Women Elections

Today, Josh Gottheimer, candidate for Congress in New Jersey's Fifth District, is proud to announce a Women's Advisory Council, which will advise his campaign -- and his future Congressional office -- on public policy issues relating to women in New Jersey.

The members of the council include:

Marla Tusk, former federal prosecutor & wife of candidate Josh Gottheimer will act as the chairwoman of the Council
Mary Adams, President of ECG
Bettina Bieri, independent Mayor of West Milford, volunteer health officer of the West Milford Animal Shelter, & CPA
Jannie Chung, Closter Town Councilwoman
Amy Eskilson, CEO of Inrad Optics & Sussex County business leader
Balpreet Grewal-Virk, Director of Community Engagement at Hackensack Meridian Health
Dr. Wendy Hurst-Levine, Gynecologist & Women's Health Specialist
The Honorable Valerie Huttle, Deputy Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly & State Assemblywoman of the 37 district
Dr. Marilyn Monroe Harris, Reverend of First Baptist Church in Teaneck
Elaine Meyerson, President of EKM1 Consulting and former Executive Director of Center for Hope and Safety
Adriana Scharr, financial advisor at Edward Jones
Anita Srivastava, financial advisor and wealth management specialist at Morgan Stanley
The Honorable Loretta Weinberg, Majority Leader of the New Jersey State Senate & State Senator of the 37th district
Julie Zier, CEO of Julie Zier Interiors & former staffer for Congresswoman Marge Roukema
The Honorable Tracy Silna Zur, Vice Chairwoman of the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders

"For seven terms, the Fifth District has been represented by the most anti-woman congressman in the nation -- Scott Garrett," the Council said. "His stance on basic issues would be extreme for 1956, let alone 2016. He's voted against equal pay… against mammogram coverage… against the Violence Against Women Act… and against a woman's right to choose even in cases of rape and incest."

The Council's statement continued, "Josh Gottheimer is the Congressman that women in our district and our families need. Unlike Garrett, he'll never support the government coming between a woman and her doctor. He supports tougher laws against sex offenders. And he cares about the things that matter most, like safe communities and helping parents achieve a better work-life balance by supporting child care, better schools, and equal pay."
