In Wake of Recent Terrorism Incidents, Gottheimer Reaffirms Need to Stand By Our First Responders and Fight Terror, at Home and Abroad

Today, minutes after one of the suspects responsible for recent bomb scares in New Jersey and New York was apprehended, Fifth District Congressional Candidate Josh Gottheimer reaffirmed his support for the first responders who have been working around the clock.

Just last week, surrounded by 9/11 first responders, police officers, and their families, Gottheimer announced his Anti-Terror Action Plan to ensure first responders and local law enforcement have all the tools they need to fight and stop terror in our communities, especially Lone-Wolf Terrorists. On a press call this morning, Gottheimer reiterated the importance of fighting terror abroad, including against state-sponsored terrorism in Iran. Gottheimer came out early and loudly against the Iran Deal -- and was one of the first to break with his party.

Last week, two articles in national Jewish publications uncovered new evidence about Gottheimer's opponent, Scott Garrett, and his weakness on his position on Iran (Tablet Magazine: "In N.J. Congressional Race, a Political Role Reversal" and Jewish Telegraph Agency: "Iran becomes an issue in New Jersey race -- although both candidates opposed the deal").

According to the articles, in 2006, Garrett signed this letter to then-President Bush, urging a soft approach to the state sponsor of terrorism. Even more incredible was who co-signed the letter, including Ron Paul, Walter Jones, and Wayne Gilchrest, several congressmen who are known to be weak on Iran and consistently fail to support our strategic relationship with Israel. "My opponent's failure to fight terror at home and abroad is utterly despicable. Garrett's record is clear: he consistently puts his Tea Party extremism over what's best for our police, fire fighters, and all first responders," said Gottheimer. "And now I've learned from a letter Garrett wrote that he's also weak on Iran. We must give our first responders every tool they need to fight ISIS and all Lone Wolf Terrorists so we can protect our communities and families."
