Cortez Masto Campaign Launches "Latinos for Cortez Masto" Grassroots Coalition Consisting of Over 200 Members of Nevada's Latino Community

To celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, today former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto launched her campaign's new grassroots coalition "Latinos for Cortez Masto," which consists of over 200 Latinos from across Nevada. Civil rights icon and advocate Dolores Huerta joined Cortez Masto for the launch at the East Las Vegas Community Center, where they joined Latinos to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. Cortez Masto and Huerta highlighted the clear choice in the Nevada Senate race and how Congressman Joe Heck has repeatedly failed Nevada's Latino community.

"I'm honored to have the support of so many strong, incredible individuals from Nevada's thriving Latino community, especially on the first day of Hispanic Heritage month," said Cortez Masto. "Hispanic-Americans have made countless contributions to our country and we are stronger today because of our history of embracing diversity. As the granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant, I know how important it is to ensure everyone has the chance to achieve the American Dream, regardless of where they come from. It is because my grandfather was able to move to this country and start a life for himself and his family that I am able to stand before you today with the opportunity to be elected as the first Latina U.S. Senator in U.S. History."

"Unfortunately, my opponent, Congressman Heck, supports an agenda -- and his Party's presidential nominee, Donald Trump -- that would weaken Nevada's Latino community, tear immigrant families apart, and force immigrant workers to keep living in the shadows," Cortez Masto continued. "Congressman Heck has spent six years in Washington showing his loyalty is to his Party and the Koch brothers, not Nevadans. Nevada's Latinos know that I am the clear choice to represent them in the U.S. Senate."

"Catherine is an outstanding public servant with a humble understanding that the work ahead of us will not be easy, but that we can achieve a better future for our families and build a better vision for the future of Nevada by working together," said Dolores Huerta. "Catherine's opponent, Congressman Joe Heck, has a history of voting against our community and has fabricated lies that do not match his voting record in Congress. Joe Heck has ignored Nevada's Latino community, showing us his back whenever we have turned to him for leadership on issues we care about. Joe Heck is backed by the Koch brothers and their group, Libre Initiative, and he supports Donald Trump for President. To this I say: Dime con quién andas y te diré quien eres. Joe Heck has shown us who he is and he is clearly not our friend. That is why I join Nevada's Latino community in supporting Catherine for the Senate."
