Cortez Masto Statement on Department of Interior Partnership with Nevada's Moapa Paiute Indian Tribe for Renewable Energy Development on Tribal Lands

Today, former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on the Department of Interior's announcement that it has partnered with Nevada's Moapa Band of Paiute Indians to promote renewable energy development and usage on the tribe's lands in Southern Nevada:

"It is fantastic news that the Department of Interior is partnering with Nevada's Indian communities to create new green jobs and strengthen our renewable energy economy. Nevada's tribal lands make up our state's unparalleled natural resources, and it is critical that we partner with local tribes to maximize their benefits to help protect the environment and strengthen the economy. Unfortunately, my opponent Congressman Heck supports an unsustainable plan to turn over federal lands in Nevada to the state, which is ill-equipped to manage them. If Joe Heck had his way, national treasures like Gold Butte would be sold to the highest bidder and no longer be available for public use. As U.S. Senator, I will work with Nevada's tribes to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect their lands while also strengthening their communities."
