Issue Position: Balancing the Budget

Issue Position

A balanced budget must be the top priority of a new Congress.

America is nearly 20 Trillion in debt. The insidious lust for power and money, wielded by career politicians who have seized power in DC, is what drives deficit spending.

I will join the fight for a balanced budget amendment. We also must dismantle most, if not all, of the so called "4th branch" of government, AKA the "Alphabet Branch" of government. These massive bureaucracies -- like the IRS, the EPA, the DoE (the list goes on) -- not only devour the People's treasure, they also operate outside of the parameters of Constitutional control. They contribute in a massive way to our deficit each year and further, their regulations fuel the fire that devours our freedom.

I support greatly diminishing or eliminating the "4th Branch" of our federal government. I support the Constitutional process to establish a balanced budget amendment to our Constitution. I support a freeze of federal spending at contemporary levels coupled with a 1% decrease in spending across the board for 10 years. I support the elimination of the IRS completely and the introduction of a 15% Federal Sales Tax.

These bold, courageous actions would eliminate the federal deficit quickly, establish a regular annual surplus, invigorate the economy, grow the GDP, increase federal revenue intake, restore our financial stability as well as our credit rating amongst G-7, and put us in a comfortable position within 10 years to begin addressing our actual debt in a meaningful way.

Critics will say that a bold plan like this would cripple the federal government. That's a lie. Any corporation across the country could deal with a plan like that. Every small business could make it just fine if they had significant fat to cut and they cut it, then decreased spending 1% every year for 10 years. Their stock would go up. Federal employees earn an average of 25% more than their civilian counterparts. Does anyone really believe that a federally employed mechanical engineer would leave his job because of a 1% pay cut knowing that his alternative would be to take a civilian job doing the same work for 24% less?

We can fix the colossal betrayal of the People's trust and theft of the People's treasure. It will require courage and vision, both of which soar abundant in the hearts of real Patriots.
