More news emerged today about Richard Burr's 20-plus year record of putting himself and special interests first in Washington. Burr has consistently voted against measures that would help families, like equal pay and raising the minimum wage. As the front page of the News & Observer shows today, he also has a steady track record of voting for legislation that would benefit fossil fuel interests, which have in turn rewarded him with hefty campaign donations.

"Everywhere I go in North Carolina, I hear that people are sick of politicians in Washington who work for themselves and the special interests, but not for the people--and Richard Burr is the classic example," said Deborah Ross, Democratic nominee for US Senate. "Richard Burr's 20-plus years in Washington have worked out well for him and his campaign contributors, but people I talk to here in our state are still struggling to pay the bills, make rent, and save for retirement. There's something wrong with that picture, and it is time for a change."

Burr's wealth has increased by over 400 percent during his time in the Senate. He also voted seven times to raise his own pay but opposed raising the minimum wage and pay equity bills. He was one of only three Senators to vote against a ban on insider trading by members of Congress while pushing legislation that would benefit his own stock portfolio.
