Diaz-Balart Supports Recently Passed Legislation to Prohibit Ransom Payments to Iranian Regime

Statement

Date: Sept. 23, 2016

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart expressed his support for recently passed H.R. 5931 Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act, which would prohibit all cash payments to Iran and demand transparency on any future settlements with Iran to ensure funds are not being used to pay ransom.

"The United States has a longstanding history of never paying for the release of hostages, and of not providing material support to terrorists. Yet President Obama has yielded on both and endangered Americans in doing so. President Obama has rewarded one of the world's most dangerous terrorist states with cash and legitimacy, and treated it as an equal rather than the pariah that it is."
