Secret Service Experts Brief Young's Bipartisan Task Force to Combat Identity Theft and Fraud

Members of Iowa Congressman David Young's Bipartisan Congressional Task Force to Combat Identity Theft and Fraud convened today with U.S. Secret Service experts for a briefing on identity theft and cyber security issues. Congressman Young organized the briefing for members to receive an update on these crimes which pose a threat to families, students, seniors, veterans, service members, and folks across America.

The Secret Service experts providing updates were Bob Novy, The Deputy Assistant Director for Investigations, Cyber Division; R. Matthew Chevraux, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Office of Investigation's Cyber Strategy and Outreach Section; and Matthews Noyes, Cyber Policy Advisor.

"I appreciate the Secret Service's willingness to join us this afternoon for a discussion about the depth and scope of these far reaching and widespread crimes," Congressman Young said. "Identity theft and fraud are serious issues in our communities in Iowa and across the country - they are complex and evolving crimes which threaten the personal financial health of Americans and the health of our national economy. By working together and keeping the lines of communication open, about threats and how to address them, we can better ensure folks across the nation have the tools and resources to stay protected."

The afternoon's discussion focused on the Secret Service's capabilities and scope of their work to prevent identity theft and electronic crime, as well as their partnerships with state and local law enforcement, and other public, private, and academic organizations. Members also had the opportunity to ask how the congressional task force can best serve as a resource and questions specific to their particular congressional districts.

About the Task Force:

Congressman Young launched the task force alongside Democratic Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09) earlier this year with a mission of protecting all Americans from hackers, scammers, thieves and fraudsters, and to develop and implement commonsense solutions which prioritize individuals' personal security and increase penalties and punishment for those who break the law.
