Statement from Governor Hassan on Potential School Funding Settlement with Dover

Statement

Date: Sept. 16, 2016
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on a potential school funding settlement with the City of Dover:

"Meeting our obligations to local school districts is critical to ensuring the strong public education system necessary to helping our students develop the skills needed for success in the innovation economy. From the time that this case was first filed, I agreed with the Attorney General's determination that the funding levels for certain school districts in Fiscal Year 2016 were not legally defensible and supported legislation to address the concerns raised by communities about school funding levels. I continue to believe that the legislature should have passed that legislation earlier this year, but I am glad to see that they now agree we should do the right thing for our students, supporting a settlement in the Dover case and proposing legislation to address other affected communities."
