Statement from Governor Hassan on Report Showing New Hampshire's Median Income Growth Best in New England, Among Highest in U.S

Statement

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the recently released U.S. Census Bureau 2015 American Community Survey, which showed New Hampshire with the highest increase in median income in New England and among the highest in the nation, the lowest poverty rate in the country and a significant decline in the number of uninsured citizens.

"Over the last several years, we have worked together in New Hampshire across party lines to make progress for our people and businesses, and the 2015 American Community Survey reaffirms that New Hampshire continues to move forward. In 2015, the median income increased in New Hampshire by approximately $3,700 -- the highest increase in New England and among the highest in the country -- and our poverty rate fell by approximately one percent and is the lowest in the nation.

"In addition, thanks in part to the bipartisan New Hampshire Health Protection Program, the number of people in New Hampshire without insurance has dropped by more than 40 percent between 2013 and 2015, with 57,000 additional Granite Staters accessing coverage in that time period.

"This year's data is an encouraging sign that our bipartisan work over the last several years is making a difference for our people and businesses, but we know that there is still more work to do to support job-creating businesses, expand middle-class opportunity and keep our economy moving in the right direction."
