Governor Hassan's Statement on August Unemployment Rate

Statement

Date: Sept. 13, 2016
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan today issued the following statement on the announcement that the labor force and number of employed Granite Staters continued to grow in August:

"With the number of employed Granite Staters continuing to reach all-time highs and the labor force continuing to grow, there continue to be encouraging signs that our economy is moving in the right direction. While our unemployment rate remains among the lowest in the nation, we must continue working together to help all of our hard-working citizens access high-quality jobs, support our innovative businesses and expand middle class opportunity.

"Despite our low unemployment rate, I continue to hear from innovative businesses across the state that are in need of more high-skilled workers now, which is why it is critical that we get Gateway to Work up and running as soon as possible. As we continue working together to build a stronger workforce with the skills and innovative thinking needed for success in the 21st century economy, Gateway to Work will play a critical role in helping us develop and expand our workforce, while at the same time closing the opportunity gap for our families. I continue to urge the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee to approve the transfer of existing federal funds so that we can begin implementing Gateway to Work.

"I remain committed to continue working with members from both parties to continue building a stronger, more innovative New Hampshire where all of our citizens who work hard have the opportunity to get ahead and stay ahead."
