Latimer has an accomplished record as environmental champion. Throughout his career he has passed legislation protecting the LI Sound, cut through red tape to save Sound Shore taxpayers millions, and authored legislation protecting Sound Shore families from flooding. In October 2012, the Environmental Advocates of New York called George Latimer one of two "greenest legislators" of the year. Upon his election to the State Senate, Latimer was named one of Albany's "up and coming environmental leaders" by the NY League of Conservation Voters.

George is fighting to protect New Yorkers against climate change by leading the way for New York to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. George voted to remove toxic chemicals from our children's toys and to increase energy efficiency standards. He is working on a compromise to continue Brown Fields cleanups in New York and working to develop a thorough plan to avoid flooding in Westchester Communities through funding capital investments and ensuring local and State government work together effectively to prevent flooding.
