Ayotte Continues Advocacy for Shipyard in Final Version of Defense Bill

Continuing her longstanding and effective leadership in the Senate on behalf of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today sent a letter to the Chairmen of the Senate and House Armed Services Committees urging them to include authorizations for three military construction projects at the shipyard in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. Ayotte serves as the Chair of the Senate Armed Services Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee, which has oversight over public shipyards and military construction. She has used her leadership on that committee to advocate for the shipyard and its workers. Ayotte successfully fought to include authorizations for these three military construction projects in the versions of the NDAA passed by the Senate Armed Services Committee and the full Senate.

Last week, Ayotte joined Senator Shaheen and their colleagues from Maine in announcing more than $58 million in additional funding for shipyard repairs and upgrades.

"To ensure that Portsmouth Naval Shipyard can continue this outstanding performance that is so important to our sailors and our national security, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard needs modern and efficient infrastructure and facilities," wrote Senator Ayotte. "That is why I have consistently advocated for projects at the shipyard and why I respectfully request that you include authorizations in the final NDAA for three important projects there."
