Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, debated Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) during a committee markup of H.R. 5931, the Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act; legislation that Congressman Zeldin cosponsors, which would prohibit any future cash payments to the Government of Iran. During this exchange, Congressman Zeldin stated that the $1.7 billion cash ransom payment to Iran was a disputed claim for good reason and shouldn't have been paid. In addition to Iran's disputed claims against the United States were outstanding disputed claims of the United States against Iran.
