This afternoon, the Department of Defense announced the nomination of Air Force General John Hyten to be the next head of U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement:
"General Hyten is well-respected and brings great experience from his time commanding Air Force Space Command. I look forward to meeting with him soon to discuss his nomination."
General Hyten currently serves as commander of Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado. If confirmed by the Senate, General Hyten would succeed Admiral Cecil Haney as the next commander of U.S. Strategic Command.
