Governor Maggie Hassan Visits Hypertherm to Highlight Her Innovate NH 2.0 Economic Plan

Today, Governor Maggie Hassan visited Hypertherm in Lebanon to discuss her Innovate NH 2.0 economic plan, which outlines the priorities she will focus on as a United States Senator to foster innovation, support job-creating businesses and expand opportunity for hard-working families.

"As a New Hampshire company that started in a garage and has grown to employ over 1,000 Granite Staters, Hypertherm embodies our state's strong entrepreneurial spirit," said Governor Maggie Hassan. "As Governor, I've worked to create a business-friendly environment that allows innovative companies like Hypertherm to thrive and grow, and my Innovate NH 2.0 economic plan outlines the priorities that I will take to the United States Senate to continue working to support job-creating businesses and expand economic opportunity."

"Throughout her time in office, Governor Hassan has been a champion for New Hampshire's innovative businesses. The governor has fought to increase and make permanent New Hampshire's research and development tax credit, cut taxes for small businesses and created the Live Free & Start initiative to support startups," Hypertherm founders Dick and Barbara Couch said in a recent op-ed. "She is fighting for priorities critical to the people of New Hampshire and its businesses. Come November, she will have our vote."

Hypertherm is a 100% associate-owned company, and Governor Hassan's Innovate NH 2.0 plan calls for encouraging more companies to explore this type of employee profit sharing. Companies such as Hypertherm have been leaders in demonstrating that profit sharing can work for employees and employers -- boosting productivity while providing employees with shares of the company to give them an ownership stake.

Innovate NH 2.0 builds on the innovation plan that Governor Hassan first laid out during her 2012 gubernatorial campaign and has worked with members of both parties to achieve during her time in office. It includes specific proposals in five key areas to ensure that hard-working families and small businesses have the opportunity to get ahead and stay ahead: encouraging business innovation and growth; developing a 21st century workforce; helping middle class families make ends meet; building a cleaner, more affordable energy future; and fixing our roads, bridges and other infrastructure systems.

Innovate NH 2.0 ensures fiscal responsibility by eliminating special tax breaks for Wall Street and Big Oil, ending tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, and asking millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share.

Washington has fallen short on these priorities as corporate special interests have rigged the system for themselves and against the middle class. In the United States Senate, Maggie will fight for the priorities outlined in her Innovate NH 2.0 plan in order to take on corporate special interests and get results for hard-working families and small businesses.
