Issue Position

It is becoming increasingly difficult for those 55+ on the Cape and Islands to stay at home in the communities they built. Affordable, accessible housing, access to care, and economic security pose significant challenges, especially for individuals on fixed incomes. Existing models hold great promise if fully funded and expanded. As State Senator, I will push to:

Host innovative health care pilot programs on the Cape - such as exploring how telemedicine could help keep seniors in their homes longer and out of more costly hospitals or nursing homes away from their friends and neighbors
Ensure adequate funding for high quality, affordable elder services and nursing facilities
Recognize the work that spouses and other family members do in caring for their loved ones and seek to have that recognized under the Personal Care Attendant program
Make it easier for communities to start initiatives such as aging-in-place "villages," like the Nauset Neighbors program
