Majority Whip McConnell Expresses Support For John Roberts To The Supreme Court

*McConnell calls for a fair process and up or down vote before October 3rd*

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell released the following statement tonight on the nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court:

"After unprecedented consultation with the Senate, President Bush has nominated John Roberts to serve on the Supreme Court. He is an excellent choice, and I was proud to vote to confirm him to the D.C. Circuit Court in the 108th Congress. Judge Roberts is a jurist of keen intellect, and the highest integrity, and he will faithfully interpret the Constitution. Judge Roberts and, indeed, the American people deserve a fair confirmation process that treats his nomination with dignity and respect. The Senate should give him an up or down vote before the beginning of the Court's new term on October 3.
