Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) issued the following statement Wednesday (September 14) upon passage of H.R. 5620, VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act of 2016:
"Congress and the American people have long known about the failures of the Veterans Administration to effectively care for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line in defense of our freedom," Westerman said. "That is why I joined my colleagues today in voting for H.R. 5620, the VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act of 2016. This bill increases accountability in the VA by permitting the firing of personnel who are not meeting performance standards or who are found to have committed misconduct. It should not take an act of Congress to clean up a troubled agency tasked with taking care of our heroes, but this bill will result in fundamental changes and improved care for our veterans."
