Blunt Rochester Speaks Up to Reduce Gun Violence; Announces Plan for a Safer Delaware

Press Release

Date: June 17, 2016
Location: Wilmington, DE

In the wake of the horrific attack on our nation and Orlando that targeted the LGBT community, Lisa Blunt Rochester today released "Common-Sense Safety: A Plan to Reduce Gun Violence in America." This comprehensive plan includes common-sense gun safety measures with the aim of reducing gun-related deaths in America and protecting Delaware residents.

"Gun violence is an epidemic in America and right here in Delaware," said Blunt Rochester. "Just this week we saw four children gunned down on the streets of Wilmington. As a mom, you worry about your kids, but you shouldn't have to worry they will get shot at school or while playing in their neighborhood."

"I am so frustrated by a GOP Congress who is too terrified of the corporate gun lobby to take reasonable steps to keep Americans safe. I'm beholden to only the people of Delaware and in Congress I'll fight to make sure the common sense steps in my proposal are enacted."

Blunt Rochester's 8-point plan includes steps to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists, criminals, and people with mental illness. It also takes further steps to keep our communities safe by reinstating the assault weapons ban and funding for gun violence prevention research.
