The Chair of the Democratic Congressional Caucus, California Congressman, Xavier Becerra was in Kissimmee on Tuesday to meet with the voters and formally endorse State Senator Darren Soto for Congress in Florida's 9th District.

Soto kicked off the press conference pledging to fight for the environment, an increase in Social Security payments for seniors, and to promot Hispanic unity in the area, while advocating for continued support of Puerto Rico during their ongoing financial crisis saying a "Prosperity in Puerto Rico means Prosperity in Central Florida."

The Democratic primary to replace incumbent Alan Grayson (who is running for Senate) in the Orange/Osceola county seat is a competitive one with Grayson's wife, Dr. Dena Grayson, former Congressional District Director Susannah Randolph, and Businesswoman Valleri Crabtree all running.

Becerra believed electing Soto was important to not only the 9th District here in Central Florida but to the entire country saying "We need a champion, we need a fighter. I'm am proud to say to you that we know you're giving us the chance to have a great leader in D.C. that will not only help the 9th district here in Florida but in these United States of America."

The presser was the second event on a three part tour Soto and Becerra took on Tuesday, that also featured a roundtable discussion with Dreamers in Auburdale and a meeting with supporters at a community center. Becerra is scheduled to campaign with another Democratic candidate for Congress, Stephanie Murphy, who is running for Congress in the 7th district, later in the day in Downtown Orlando.
