In Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville warned against a massive bureaucratic state that "covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd."
When Congress passes a voluminous, 1,000+ page bill, what usually follows is a torrent of regulations that impose significant burdens on the economy. A high regulatory burden benefits the biggest businesses, which have the scale to handle the added costs, at the expense of individuals and small businesses, which get suffocated by the added red tape. This makes it more difficult to have a growing, vibrant economy and stifles economic opportunity.
Ron has consistently advocated for reducing the Federal bureaucracy that stifles so many aspects of the economy and our personal liberty. He has supported legislation to give the VA increased flexibility to remove officials who fail nation's veterans. He has helped lead the effort to impeach the IRS commissioner for political high crimes and misdemeanors related to the IRS's illegal targeting of conservative groups. Ron has also supported the REINS Act which would require that regulations that have a significant economic impact are subject to a vote of Congress prior to taking effect.
