Fleming Asks Labor Secretary for Overtime Rule Delay

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after sending a letter to the Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Thomas Perez requesting a delay in the DOL's looming overtime rule for Louisiana businesses recovering from catastrophic flooding in 2016.

"Louisiana has been hit hard by two historic floods this year. These extreme floods have damaged more than 84,000 homes across the state, causing harm within a majority of parishes. The August floods affected at least one-fifth of the State's businesses, disrupting a significant portion of Louisiana's workforce. And, the numbers are still coming in. The Department of Labor's overtime rule will double down on small businesses during this critical recovery phase.

"While I think that Secretary Perez must go back to the drawing board on the overtime rule and am fully supportive of stopping the overtime rule from being implemented at all, my letter specifically requests a one-year delay for all Louisiana parishes declared disaster areas in 2016."
