Cramer: Northern Border Caucus Discusses Issues With Canadian Ambassador

Congressmen Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Brian Higgins (D-NY), co-chairs of the House Northern Border Caucus, hosted David MacNaughton, the Canadian Ambassador to the United States, at a meeting today on Capitol Hill.

MacNaughton is a Canadian diplomat, business leader, political strategist and strategy consultant who became the Canadian Ambassador in March.

He told Caucus members one of his top priorities is ratification of the new U.S.-Canada Preclearance Agreement. He is working with Congress on the passage of H.R. 4657, the Promoting Travel, Commerce and National Security Act of 2016, which Cramer and Higgins are co-sponsoring. This is the U.S. legislation needed to bring the agreement into force.

Other issues discussed were trade, immigration, border mobility, security and technology.

"Strong North American cooperation on security, commerce, and trade issues is vital to the prosperity and success of both nations," said Cramer. "The preclearance agreement is one of many areas where the United States and Canada can work together to improve the flow of goods, services and people across the border while also strengthening our mutual security. As co-chairman of the Northern Border Caucus, I look forward to partnering with Ambassador MacNaughton and my fellow Members in the Caucus to advance these initiatives in Congress."

The House Northern Border Caucus consists of Members from districts adjacent to the Canadian border. Its purpose is to encourage good relations between the United States and Canada.
