Cramer: Cms Confirms Jamestown Medical Center'S Critical Access Hospital Status

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement regarding today's official confirmation by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) at the Department of Health and Human Services the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) will retain its Critical Access Hospital (CAH) status. In early August CMS notified JRMC its CAH status was being revoked because the North Dakota State Hospital was also located in Jamestown. One requirement of a hospital receiving CAH status is that another hospital not be located within 35 miles. In a letter to CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt, Cramer clarified the State Hospital provides psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment to North Dakotans who require in-patient or specialized residential care and does not meet the traditional definition of a hospital.

"I am pleased this misunderstanding has been resolved and the Jamestown Regional Medical Center will continue as a Critical Access Hospital providing crucial services to the Jamestown area. This designation helps hospitals reduce their financial vulnerability and keep essential services in rural communities."
