Castro Praises House's Passage of U.S.-Japan-Korea Trilateral Cooperation Legislation

Statement

Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement after the House passed H. Res. 634, a measure of which he is an original cosponsor, that recognizes the importance of the United States-Republic of Korea-Japan trilateral relationship:

"The North Korean regime's continued, aggressive behavior threatens the stability of the Asia-Pacific region. In its latest display of disregard for United Nations Security Council resolutions, just two days ago, North Korea fired three ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan.

"This timely resolution reiterates the United States' commitment to our allies Japan and South Korea in the face of persistent North Korean provocations. Our nations stand united in opposition to Pyongyang's flagrant hostility. We share a strong desire for peace, a belief in the preciousness of human life, and an interest in economic strength. I'm pleased that today the House demonstrated its support for the United States, Japan, and South Korea's trilateral alliance and our efforts to uphold international law and promote long-term security in the region."
