Today, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte released a statement regarding the latest move to create an online sales tax.

"The latest effort to impose a new online sales tax scheme across the country in order to plug budget holes in other states is wrong for New Hampshire's online retailers. Instead of burdening hardworking New Hampshire online entrepreneurs with regulatory overreach from other states, we should be making it easier for e-commerce to thrive and allow for more job growth. I will keep up the fight against this latest effort that is anything but fair for New Hampshire."

Ayotte has been a leading voice in the Senate for blocking efforts to create a new online sales tax collection regime and has strongly voiced her opposition to the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act that would require Internet businesses to collect sales taxes for nearly 10,000 jurisdictions in the United States.
