Statement

Location: Concord, NH
Issues: Drugs

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it is requiring class-wide changes to drug labeling, including boxed warnings, to better inform patients and providers about the serious risks of combined use of opioid analgesics, prescription opioid cough products, and benzodiazepine.

"Today's announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to better inform patients and providers about the serious risks of the combined use of certain opioid medications is an important step forward to building on the efforts we're taking here in New Hampshire. I commend the FDA for taking this step and encourage them to take further action on the recommendations that my fellow Governors and I put forward for federal action to combat the heroin and opioid crisis."
