McCaul Statement on Reported Death of ISIS' Propagandist

House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) today issued the following statement on the reported death of ISIS' leading propagandist, Muhammad al-Adnani, as terrorist news sources are reporting. A senior ISIS leader and spokesman, Adnani encouraged "lone wolf attacks against the West," telling extremists everywhere to target "a disbelieving American or European" and "smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car" in a September 2014 speech.

Chairman McCaul: "The reported death of ISIS leader Muhammad al-Adnani represents a significant blow to the greatest terror threat to the homeland. But as we have seen time and again, someone will take his place and continue to inspire people to attack innocent civilians across the globe. The Obama Administration, conversely, is just not doing enough to destroy ISIS. Abroad, it is not prosecuting the war against ISIS aggressively enough; at home, it has done next to nothing to directly counter the appeal of ISIS' message that is infecting at-risk Americans. I urge the Administration to redouble its efforts by denying these extremists their safe havens in Syria, Iraq, and elsewhere while more aggressively countering jihadist radicalization efforts in the United States."
