Van Hollen Statement on CBO's Updated Budget and Economic Outlook

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the updated Budget and Economic Outlook from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO):

"Today's update reinforces the need to build on the progress we've made so our economy can continue to grow and create jobs. Our businesses have created 15 million jobs since the private sector began adding jobs after the Great Recession. We've made a lot of progress, but we have more work to do.

"Our economy is strongest when it is working for all Americans, not just the wealthy few. That's why House Democrats have put forward the Stronger America agenda -- a plan to create a secure financial future for all Americans so they can buy a home, send their children to college, and save for retirement. We must invest in American infrastructure, increase affordability and quality of our schools, colleges, and job training programs, and create more fairness in the tax code so that wealthy corporations aren't rewarded for shipping jobs overseas. And we must increase the minimum wage and ensure equal pay for equal work so all Americans who work hard have the opportunity to get ahead."
