Today, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack issued a Secretarial Natural Disaster Designation for three counties in New Hampshire as a result of drought, which will help provide support for struggling New Hampshire farmers.
"I welcome today's disaster designation that will help provide assistance to New Hampshire's agricultural community that is being deeply affected by this period of drought," said Ayotte. "I appreciate Secretary Vilsack's attention to this urgent matter and I urge USDA to keep working closely with New Hampshire's farmers to ensure they get the support they need during this difficult time."
Earlier this month, Ayotte wrote to Secretary Vilsack and urged him to move forward with a disaster designation to help provide support for local farmers.
