Ayotte Welcomes Disaster Designation for NH Counties

Today, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack issued a Secretarial Natural Disaster Designation for eight counties in New Hampshire as a result of "freeze and unseasonably warm temperatures" over the period of February 1, 2016, to April 30, 2016. In addition, according to United States Drought Monitor data, as of August 16, 2016, three counties were identified as extreme drought (D3) status. Under current disaster designation procedures, a D3 drought level triggers a disaster designation.

"I appreciate Secretary Vilsack's attention to this urgent matter that is deeply impacting New Hampshire's agricultural community. Going forward, I urge USDA to continue to work closely with New Hampshire's farmers to ensure that they are receiving adequate support during natural disasters."
