Governor Hassan's Statement on Announcement of Additional Federal Funding for High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the Office of National Drug Control Policy's announcement today of an additional $17 million in federal funding for High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) across the country:

"The heroin and opioid crisis is the most pressing public health and public safety challenge facing our state, and I welcome the announcement of these additional funds to help efforts in New Hampshire's High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas. In New Hampshire, we are working across party lines and with stakeholders at all levels to combat the heroin and opioid crisis with a comprehensive strategy to support law enforcement and strengthen prevention, treatment and recovery efforts, including providing additional resources to those battling this horrible epidemic on the front lines. Today's announcement by the Office of National Drug Control Policy is an important step forward, but that must be backed up by emergency federal funds, which unfortunately Congress has failed to do."
