Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-CA) issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump's comments today that Vladimir Putin would not invade Ukraine.
"Having served on active duty in the United States military, I know how critically important it is that our Commander in Chief not only have the right temperament for life and death situations, but also not be ignorant or brash. When you ignore facts in the sensitive area of national security, people die. Donald Trump's braggadocio and false statement that Vladimir Putin is 'not going to Ukraine' and that 'You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want.' is not just embarrassing, it highlights again how unfit Trump is to be our Commander in Chief.
The Republican nominee's weird attraction to Vladimir Putin is also cause for concern. Playing footsie with Russia and supporting one of America's enemies is unbecoming and dangerous for anyone seeking to become our Commander in Chief. It is time for Speaker Ryan and other GOP leaders who care about our national security to withdraw their endorsement of this dangerous man."
