Angie Craig Highlights Importance of Equal Pay Day

Today is Equal Pay Day. This day symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men who perform equal work earned in the previous year. In order to catch up to what men made for equal work in 2015, women would need to work an additional 103 days. That date is today, Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

"Growing up in our family, it was mostly up to my mom to provide for my siblings and me," said Angie Craig, Democratic candidate for Congress in Minnesota's Second Congressional District. "Like her, many women today are their family's chief breadwinners and many others are equal participants in supporting their families."

"That's why it's outrageous that women earn just 79 cents for every dollar a man makes and that Second Congressional District Candidate Jason Lewis and Republican Party presidential frontrunner Donald Trump are ok with that. When women earn less, it hurts working families."

"That's why as part of the leadership team at St. Jude Medical, I started a women-in-business program to help women advocate for themselves and seek promotions to leadership. It's long past time to give all women and their families a fair shot and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. I'll fight for that in Congress."
