Angie Craig Reacts To The President's Final State Of The Union

Statement

Tonight, DFL Second Congressional District candidate Angie Craig, released the following statement in response to President Obama's final State of the Union address:

"Listening to the President's final State of the Union tonight, I couldn't help but think of how far we've come in the last seven years, but also of how much work we have left to do," said Craig. "Millions more Americans have health insurance, we've made great progress on international agreements to stem climate change, every American is free to marry the person that they love, and we've gone from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression to an economy that's beginning to grow again.

"This country still faces a host of challenges, though. We must continue to build on the economic recovery and double down on the progress we've made in our health care system. We need to eliminate the huge debt that too many of our college graduates face. And it's time to finally engage in an honest search for solutions to the gun violence epidemic inside our nation.

"Sadly, one of the biggest challenges to the progress we've made are those who would have us turn our backs on our progress and march backward on the obstacles we face as a nation, or worse, ignore the problems that we still need to solve altogether. President Obama's legacy will always be marked by his willingness to try to solve the big problems, answer the biggest questions, and tackle the greatest challenges. In Washington, I will fight every day for the families that sent me there and continue to search for solutions to the problems we face together as a nation."
