Catherine Cortez Masto Statement on 4th Anniversary of Implementation of DACA

Former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on the 4th anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals(DACA) program:

"Today we celebrate the 4 year anniversary of DACA, a program that has prevented thousands of families from being torn apart. Last week, I had the honor of having lunch with immigrant families who are at risk of being torn apart. The stories of these families aren't unique. Far too many families throughout Nevada are forced to live in the shadows because of Congress's failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

"My opponent, Congressman Heck, sees things differently. In Congress, he has voted to defund DACA, he supports repealing the constitutional right to birthright citizenship, and supports Donald Trump for President. Even worse, despite everything Donald Trump has done, despite his attacks on immigrants, women, Muslims, the disabled, workers, and families of fallen soldiers, Congressman Heck, said last week that Republicans need to fall in line and support Trump for the good of the Republican Party.

"Congressman Heck's comments perfectly encapsulate what he does in Washington: put his party ahead of what's best for Nevada. As Nevada's next Senator, I will be committed to working with both parties to pass comprehensive immigration reform in order to bring the many families living in fear of deportation out of the shadows and provide them with a pathway to citizenship. And unlike my opponent, I will put the people of Nevada first, not my political party."
