Cortez Masto Slams Donald Trump for Proposal to Ban Immigration from Philippines at Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance Convention

Last night, former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto addressed members of Nevada's Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community at the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) "For Nevada's Future: Every Vote Counts" event in Las Vegas. Cortez Masto emphasized the critical role that the AAPI community has had in the economic and cultural growth of Las Vegas. As Nevada's next Senator, Cortez Masto is committed to solving the problems that face the AAPI community: stagnant wages, an underfunded education system, and a broken immigration system.

Cortez Masto also highlighted her opponent, Congressman Heck's, continued support for Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump, despite Trump's proposal to ban immigration from the Philippines.

"Nevada's AAPI population is the fastest growing in the country and the AAPI community has helped our state recover from the Great Recession," said Cortez Masto. "Nevada has been able to succeed because we have embraced our diversity, not rejected it. Unfortunately, Donald Trump fails to recognize this and wants to ban immigration from the Philippines. Yet still, Congressman Heck continues to support Trump's campaign.

"If Trump is elected and Congressman Heck is in the Senate to support his agenda, Nevada's AAPI community will suffer," Cortez Masto added. "We cannot allow Donald Trump or Congressman Heck to get elected and put policies in place that are the exact opposite of what makes America great. Congressman Heck says he has "high hopes' for a Trump presidency. Nevada's AAPI community has high hopes that we keep Donald Trump out of the White House and Congressman Heck out of the Senate."
