Cortez Masto Joins DAPA Eligible Families to Discuss Impact of Congress' Failure to Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Highlight Her Commitment to Keeping Immigrant Families Together

Today, former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto joined DAPA eligible families for lunch to discuss the impact of Republicans' refusal to pass comprehensive immigration reform and their efforts to end President Obama's executive actions to keep families together. In the Senate, Cortez Masto will work with both parties to solve problems like fixing our broken immigration system. But while Cortez Masto is committed to passing comprehensive immigration reform, Congressman Heck has been part of the problem in Washington. Congressman Heck opposed the Senate immigration reform compromise and voted to defund DACA and DAPA.

"The Guigui and Miranda families are just two of the thousands of Nevada families who wake up every day, wondering if a knock on the door means their family is about to be torn apart," said Cortez Masto. "This is not what America is about -- and not the America that allowed my grandfather to immigrate from Mexico, start a new life, and raise a family here in Nevada. Unfortunately, my opponent, Congressman Heck, opposed the bipartisan immigration reform compromise and voted to defund DACA and DAPA. Congressman Heck even voted to sue President Obama over these executive actions that have prevented families from being torn apart. While Congressman Heck may be content with putting hardworking families like the Guigui's and Miranda's in a constant state of limbo, I will fight to ensure that Nevada families are able stay together and have the opportunity to succeed -- just as my family did decades ago."
