Issue Position

First, I believe that our small businesses are the backbone of Wisconsin's economy, and I believe businesses are over burdened with job killing regulations. In fact, there are over 12,000 pages of administrative codes, including some over 100 years old, and the costs of complying with those regulations are a deterrent to business expansion.

Second, Government doesn't create jobs. Government provides an environment where businesses can be positively or negatively impacted. The goal of state government ought to be to work with business to comply with needed regulations, not to impose massive fines on business, monetary penalties should be used as a last resort for serious offenses.

A few years ago, the Wisconsin Assembly formed a "Right the Rules Committee" which identifies over burdensome or archaic Administrative Rules. Thus far the state legislature has been proactive in this effort and is working cooperatively with Wisconsin businesses instead of harassing them and forcing them to relocate outside the state or our country. I'm supportive of these efforts and as your State Senator will continue to champion these efforts.
