Kauai and the State of Hawaii imports 85-90% of the food that we consume. We can support agriculture by doing the following:

1. Improve agriculture infrastructure, especially funding to repair and maintain agricultural irrigation systems that provide water at low cost to farmers
2. Support funding for the Kauai Community College Food Production and Education Center to train students, and provide USDA approved-equipment and facilities for entrepreneurs and existing farmers to create value-added products
3. Support farm to school initiatives that give farmers a chance to feed our children with fresh, locally grown food
4. Support agricultural parks with long-term leases and reasonable water rates
5. Support local branding and marketing campaigns to encourage consumers to buy local
