Cleaver Gives Transportation Update at TranSystems' Kansas City Office

Press Release

Date: Aug. 12, 2015
Issues: Transportation

Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver, II gave an update on transportation issues at TranSystems' Kansas City office and headquarters to transportation stakeholders on Monday, August 10. Cleaver expressed disappointment the Transportation Bill did not receive a full reauthorization of a new six year bill.

"With these short extensions we are only providing resources enough to the state DOTs for them to keep their lights on, not to engage in long term planning, design, and construction efforts," Cleaver said.

Cleaver also restated his support for a measured and inflation-indexed increase in the Federal fuel excise tax, which is applied to each gallon of gasoline and diesel at the pump. Cleaver noted that the Federal government's success in increasing miles per gallone performance in automobiles has led to a decrease in revenues raised by that tax.
