Van Hollen Statement on NTSB Report on Silver Line Derailment

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) preliminary report on the July 29 Silver Line derailment:

"I am dismayed that once again, people were put at risk because Metro failed to adhere to its own safety standards. Metro's standards are meaningless if not met with stringent enforcement, which is clearly not yet the case. General Manager Wiedefeld has taken important steps to correct years of mismanagement and disrepair, but this incident is a glaring indication that much work remains to be done."
