General Ike Eisenhower successfully commanded the Normandy Invasion 72 years ago. He displayed courage in giving the orders knowing the weather was questionable and that the enemy awaiting them was tenacious and battle hardened. The Allies gained a foothold back on the continent and the war was over approximately a year later. But, the Allies lost approximately 53,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen during the Normandy invasion. We salute their bravery and willingness to sacrifice their lives for freedom and the defeat of fascism.
General Eisenhower is one of my heroes. He was decisive, knew how to delegate, a problem solver, treated people of all ranks with respect and successfully built coalitions and teams. He was known for his friendly smile. He also was willing to hold people accountable when they weren't getting the job done. We need these traits back in Washington, D.C.
General Eisenhower was not a career politician, but was a leader. We need leaders in Washington, D.C. who are willing to tackle the debt, an over-zealous bureaucracy, and a broken tax code and we need leaders who will ensure we have a strong military to keep the peace. We have too many career politicians who lead with their finger in the air and who have the primary goal of winning reelection, all the while avoiding the problems that are bringing down our nation. Leadership is not about straddling the fence and trying to have it both ways on key issues.
I will bring leadership to Washington, D.C. with a heart to tackle the problems undermining this great country. I will gauge my success not by winning reelections, but whether or not we are making progress with the top issues of the day. For me, it starts with national security, defeating ISIS, getting control of our debt, improving the environment for small business, shrinking the bureaucracy, and simplifying our tax code.
