Statement Regarding President's Speech at Fort Bragg, NC

Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauro
President's Speech at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) released the following statement on the president's speech at Fort Bragg, N.C., this evening.

"We all want for the U.S. to succeed in Iraq and all want to support our troops in every way possible. They deserve a clear plan for success. That is why I am disappointed with the president's comments tonight.

"The American people deserve to know how the reconstruction of Iraq is proceeding, how much longer we will be in Iraq, and a plan to bring our troops home."

"From the earliest days of planning for the Iraq war, the president has failed to level with the American people about the length of time we would occupy the country, the strength of the insurgency, and the cost of this war. Tonight, with more than 1,700 American troops dead and over 13,000 wounded, the president has again proved his Administration does not have a plan to win the peace in Iraq."
