Retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today issued the following statement on the retirement of United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

"Justice Sandra Day O'Connor will long be remembered for her balanced legal opinions, which upheld the values of this country. Like so many women of this country, I will always be inspired by Justice O'Connor for the barriers she broke down as the first woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court.

"As President Bush works to fill this vacancy, I am hopeful he will take this opportunity to unite the country, selecting an individual who will be a voice of reason and moderation on the Court, like Justice O'Connor was.

"I commend Justice O'Connor for her years of service and send her my best wishes in her retirement."
