Gov. Scott: Miami Area Added More Than 18,000 Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Miami area added 18,700 new private-sector jobs over the year in June. The Miami area's unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, down 1.0 percentage point in the last year.

Governor Scott said, "With more than 18,000 new jobs added this year, it is clear that Miami businesses are growing and creating new opportunities for families to succeed. We have cut taxes 55 times since 2010, saving $5.5 billion for families and job creators, and we will continue to do all we can to make Florida first for jobs."

The industries with the most job growth over the year in Miami were construction and professional and business services, each with 5,300 new jobs. In June, Miami continued to have the third-highest job demand in the state with 29,168 job openings. The area also had the third-highest number of openings for high-wage, high-skill STEM occupations with 7,661 online openings.

Florida businesses have added 102,600 new jobs since January 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,127,400 jobs. Florida's annual job growth rate, at 3.2 percent, is also exceeding the nation's, at 1.9 percent, for the 51st consecutive month. The state's unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent in June, the lowest rate since November 2007. More than 31,841 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource South Florida and the state's other 24 regional workforce boards.
