Gianforte Highlights Manufactuing Scholarships with Billings Area Businesses, Not Keeping Salary Once Elected

Greg Gianforte won't keep his salary when he's elected governor. Instead, he'll dedicate the funds to a special manufacturing scholarship for veterans and low income Montanans.

The Bozeman businessman and tech entrepreneur plans to highlight the proposal during a tour of Billings-area businesses on Wednesday and Thursday.

GIANFORTE: "We've had enough career politicians in Helena who think the people are here to serve them. It's supposed to be the other way around. That's why, when I'm elected governor, I'll dedicate my salary to a special manufacturing scholarship for veterans and low income Montanans. This is about serving Montanans, and providing better outcomes for working families."

Prior to running for governor, Greg and his wife Susan started the Gianforte Manufacturing Scholarships program via the Commissioner of Higher Education's office. Over 300 Montana veterans and lower income Montanans have benefited from the scholarships. The scholarships provide 50% tuition assistance for welding and machining certificates at Montana two year campuses.

Gianforte is a candidate for governor, and is the founder of RightNow Technologies. He started the company out of his house in Bozeman, and created over 500 jobs in Montana. The average Montana salary at RightNow was nearly $90,000 a year.
