Duckworth Announces Over $2.4 Million for the American Academy of Pediatrics

Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced $2,421,041 in federal funding for the American Academy of Pediatrics, a public health organization based in the Eighth District. The funds are distributed through the Center for Disease Control's Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support (OSTLTS) Partnerships Program. These grants are given to public health organizations in order to develop and strengthen community-level public health initiatives.

"As a new mother, I know how important medical access is for maintaining the health of our children," said Congresswoman Duckworth. "I'm pleased to see the American Academy of Pediatrics receive this grant to help them continue to serve the needs of our Eighth District community."

In 2013, the CDC's Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support launched a 5 year funding program that finances public health improvement efforts led by state, local and tribal organizations. The main goals of the program are to update technology and data collection systems, provide community-level agencies with the resources to meet national public health standards and increase administrative efficiency. The American Academy of Pediatrics, located in Elk Grove Village, is one of 25 nonprofit organizations participating in this program.
