Issues: Education

Candidates running for election often talk a lot about how "our children are our future," but when it comes right down to it, they rarely seem to vote that way. When teachers are too tied up by red tape to do their jobs and when class time is spent measuring performance with standardized tests instead of actually learning, something is wrong.

Lawmakers often claim to be in favor of education spending. However, a complete lack of respect for the teaching profession by legislators and failure to provide compensation for their hard work has resulted in good teachers being driven away.

Ballooning education costs, loss of great teachers, and unequal allocation of available funds are all preventing our children from receiving the best possible education. We need to do better. If elected, I vow to restore the proper funding to schools, to guarantee that funding is used responsibly, and ensure that teachers are able to do their jobs.
